Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 3 green tea bags
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger sliced
  • 1/4 cup honey or to taste
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1: Boil Water: In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, remove the pot from the heat to prevent over-extraction of the tea, which can lead to a bitter taste.
  • Step 2: Steep the Tea and Ginger: Add the green tea bags and fresh ginger slices to the hot water. Cover the pot with a lid to trap the heat and aromatic oils. Let the tea and ginger steep for 5-7 minutes. Adjust the steeping time according to your preference for tea strength. For a milder flavor, steep for 5 minutes; for a stronger, more robust flavor, steep for 7 minutes. Be careful not to over-steep, as this can result in a bitter tea.
  • Step 3: Sweeten with Honey: Carefully remove the tea bags and ginger slices from the pot. Ensure you don't squeeze the tea bags, as this can release tannins and make the tea bitter. Stir in the honey while the tea is still warm, ensuring it dissolves completely. Adjust the amount of honey to your liking, tasting as you go. If you prefer a less sweet tea, start with 2 tablespoons and add more as needed.
  • Step 4: Add Lemon Juice: Stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice. The lemon juice not only adds a bright, zesty flavor but also helps to balance the sweetness of the honey. Again, adjust the amount of lemon juice to your taste. If you prefer a more tart tea, add a bit more lemon juice.
  • Step 5: Chill the Tea: Allow the tea to cool to room temperature before transferring it to the refrigerator. Chilling the tea before serving is crucial, as it allows the flavors to meld together and enhances the refreshing quality of the beverage. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably longer, to ensure it is thoroughly chilled.
  • Step 6: Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled tea over the ice, leaving a little room at the top. Garnish with lemon slices for an extra touch of elegance and flavor, if desired. You can also add a sprig of mint or a slice of ginger for additional garnish and flavor.
